The Simple Note Applet is just what it sounds like. It is a simple note taking applet for AWN. It's really meant just for quickly jotting things down. It's not going to replace Tomboy or BasKet Notes. Hell, it doesn't even stand up to Sticky Notes. But if you don't need a complicated full feature note taking app, this might be for you.

It's basically just a gtk.textview widget that save its contents to a backend, so they persist if you close AWN. I'm open to suggestions for more feature, but plan on keeping it as simple as its name.

I think it's a great simple applet. You could implement tab to have multiple notes in different tab. It would be nice.

Looks great. I was thinking about having very simple formatting options, such as bold and italic. Obviously I don't need advanced tables or images or anything of that sort, but bold/italics would help to highlight important text. I'm pretty sure that Pango works on TextViews with < b > and < i > tags.

Have you thought about integrating it with Tomboy? It should be simple enough using Tomboy's DBUS interface.

Simple formatting would be great. I'll give it a shot soon. I'll look into doing some kind of tabs as well.

I think that might be a little beyond the scope of what I want to do. Also that will bring the inevitable C#/Mono debate around. I don't feel strongly either way, so it's not one I'm looking to get into.

Wow, formatting with pyGtk textbuffers is a lot more complicated than I would have thought. I've done some initial work and pushed to to my bzr branch on LP, but it's not ready to use. Any hints would be appreciated. I would imagine there would be a lib to call for this, but for the life of me I can't find one.

Andrew,
[Q]

What is the status of the applet?
[Q]

As far as I can see it hasn't been pushed to awn-extras. Any thoughts on doing so?

I haven't had as much time as I'd like to work on this, so there hasn't been much progress.
[Q]

I'd really like to work out some simple formatting. I still haven't completely figured it out, and I need to find out a way to make the formatting persistent (right now the backend is just a text file). Also a way to have tabs or multiple instances would be nice.
[Q]

It's really just a learning project, so I don't know when I'll get around to these things.
[Q]

The first release above is stable enough as it is to get pushed to awn-extras if there is interest. Didn't really seem like there was much at this stage. I'll commit it if people think it's useful.
