Thx :). Its a hack, go here : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=241868 to read the details. Its nice but it doesn't have a default menu and it's a bitch to skin properly. Too bad the developer is in the army now, i hope someone else picks up the project. If not, i am thinking to try to add a default menu to the applet when i am more knowledgeable with the gtk libraries and the gnome applets.

You guys are lucky with screelets > I got memory leaks and my desktop completely frozen. It's very early software though, i guess it will improve.

Some things can seem pretty hard with linux if you are new to it, maybe you can tell us what you want to do and we can help you. You can also try the Ubuntu forum, its full with very useful information for newbies. Don't give up just yet, as soon as you've learn how to make your desktop the way you want, you will never go back.

Screenlets are still very-extremely-pre-pre-alpha software, and the widget plugin has been unmaintained for awhile. That said, screenlets work very well for me, and I will keep my repo up-to-date with the latest stable(?!) version of both screenlets and the widget plugin.

For those of you not on Ubuntu edgy, you can get screenlets here: http://www.go-compiz.org/index.php?title=Desktop_Screenlets and the beryl plugin here: http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewtopic.php?t=2554

Also, here's a screenshot of the screenlets with widget layer active: http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42/static/Screenlets-widgets.png

do screenlets stay on your screen at all times? do they take mouse focus? or do they get picked up by alt-tab?
They are individually configurable so you can set them to appear when you press <super>+<F9> or you can set them to remain on screen.

I'm not sure I understand the mouse focus question, but if they are set to be on the widget layer, once the widget layer is deactivated the window that previously had focus still has focus.

Well the gtk and beryl themes are made by me, its a port of imetal for osx without the full gradient across the whole window (not possible with clearlooks). The icon theme is osx with some modifications by me and the desktop icons are taken from the inex pack. I would publish the theme pack but i can't contact the author of the original theme for osx to get his permission.

I will upload a screenshot of the finished skin (with antialised corners) later, right now imageshack gives me the boot ...

It is something I'm working on to match my GTK theme which is also a work in progress. Most of the firefox themes don't look good if you use a dark gtk theme.
