UPCOMMING
------------
After https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/awn/+bug/148812/comments/9 this report, I have been doing some major hacking at pynot.
[Q]

I have a semi-working model so far.
[Q]

The System Tray accepts only RGBA icons, so testing with standard system tray icons will cause errors. As you might imagine, this is rather useless until the patches come through for the majority of us.
[Q]

Until then, here are some screenshots to tide you over.
[Q]

[Q]

Note the System tray Icon is a white circle. Nothing too fancy.
You might need to zoom in on the pics to see whats happening :)

Same thing happens to me, although I can't confirm whether having it more than 1 high fixes the issue, I didn't test that.

Hey guys,
[Q]

I was wondering how to install this applet. I could get the first version of it installed by extracting it to my /home/user/.config/awn/applets folder.
[Q]

However, I can't get any of the newer versions to work if I do that. I only get the white line in AWN when I try to run it.
[Q]

I've also tried just dragging and dropping the zip file from my desktop into the awn manager and that doesn't work either, which usually does for most applets.
[Q]

I am not running any other system tray programs. (including the first version of pynot that actually works for me)
[Q]

Also, I can not get the preferences thing to work either. I'm kind of wondering if that's due to the fact that there isn't one included with the first version of the applet.
[Q]

Thanks.

The only issue I've noticed, other than the transparency issue, is with this version it seems to not size correctly. Is there anything you can do to make it the right size? Example : I have 4 things running in Pynot, yet it's sized to have 6 things running. If I have 2 things running, it's sized for 4.

Thanks.

Ok... So the only reason I can give to there bieng blank spots is something that is running is asking for a spot and not filling it. I'll need to know what. Im going to add some optional Debug output and will ask those of you with this problem to help with feedback, if possible. Working on it now.

Just FYI to get this to work for me for Pynot 0-13 (using awn 0.2.6 under debian) I had to add quotes around 'None' in pynot.py:557 and line pynotconf.py:54 (same code in both places):
[Q]

awn_options=awn.Config('pysystemtray',None) => awn_options=awn.Config('pysystemtray','None')
[Q]

The error was that it wanted the 2nd arg as a string. Not sure why this didn't show up for others.
[Q]

Without this change it would only show a white line in the dock. I added it to pynot.py first and the tray showed up, had to add it to the pynotconf.py to get the settings to show up.
[Q]

Other than that it looks to be progressing well.
[Q]

Thanks.

Adding a DEBUG version to ask people to help me find and squish the no-icon space bug.
[Q]

To use this... Run up a terminal, type "avant-window-navigator" and then minimise the terminal and use the PC as usual...
Once you see an icon, look at the terminal, on each re-draw the PID, x and y locations of each icon are shown, use ps -ef | grep "the pid" to find which program it is that's causing it, then tell me, so i can find out WHY.
[Q]

Thanks people :D

Hmm, without pypanel I still get:

ImportError: No module named Xlib

Are you sure the dependency is gone? pypanel installs python-xlib so that is probably still required?

Okay, and one little bug report. The background image seems to work well except if there aren't any icons in it when it is started up. If that is the case it just uses the solid color defined in prefs to make a thin space. If you start something that adds an icon, the bg image then appears, and you can remove the process and it resizes and keeps the bg image.

Hey fellas,
[Q]

I have a bit of a bizarre issue happening with Pynot .18. It's not a big deal, but it's odd.
[Q]

When I boot my computer if I log into Ubuntu before the Network Manager (nm-applet) has connected to my wireless network, Pynot is just a empty black square. (There should be 4 applications in it.)
[Q]

However, if I wait about 20 seconds or so when I'm at the login screen, then login, I'm always connected to my wireless network. So Pynot shows up correctly with all the apps loaded, fully functional, and looking good.
[Q]

Is there any idea as to why the Network Manager not being connected to a wireless network first before loading Pynot causes it to not function? This was not happening with the first few versions of Pynot I tried.

bb, i can think of nothing, how are you auto-loading awn? if you know how, change the run code from "avant-window-navigator" to "gnome-terminal -e avant-window-navigator" and then cause the crash as you mentioned, and see what output is in awn's terminal.

Well, I tried booting and rebooting my laptop about 10 - 12 times last night and I couldn't replicate the issue of Pynot opening as an empty black square. Perhaps when it did it before 2 or 3 times it was just a fluke. I'm not sure. But things are looking good right now. I'll let you know if it acts weird again.

I'm having a similar issue with pynot. I'm running awn 0.3.2 on OpenBox 3.4.7.2-3 and Ubuntu 9.04. When awn starts (through the autostart.sh script) I get a blank space where pynot should be (i should see my wicd icon), but when i start another instance of wicd-client both icons show up.
[Q]

That's really the only issue I'm having with it. Good Work!
