Sticky Notes Applet?
#25941 by lotus49 (0.2090) posted on 1:36am Sunday, January 31st, 2010
I am looking for a sticky notes applet.
[Q]

I like the Gnome Sticky Notes applet. The notes have no border so don't take up much space and changing colour and title is very straightforward. However, it is an applet rather than a normal application and I don't know how to use it in AWN.
[Q]

I don't want to use Tomboy notes because it isn't really a sticky notes application and takes up far too much screen space and doesn't seem to offer any simple way of changing the note colour.
[Q]

So, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could use?
[Q]

Thanks in advance.

Hi lotus49,
[Q]

If you are prepared to be a little patient, I'll see if I can knock together a sticky notes applet.

That would be great. I am not after anything too snazzy. As I said, the Gnome Sticky Notes applet works well but I have replaced my Gnome panel with AWN and it doesn't appear to be possible to run it independently.
[Q]

In the meantime, I am using xpad. It's not perfect and it doesn't have a nice launcher but it works.
[Q]

I am sure this would be a popular applet - thanks.

Hi,
[Q]

The sticky notes applet is almost ready.
[Q]

Here is a screenshot of it in action.

That was a lot quicker than I had expected, thank you.
[Q]

I would be happy to test it for you. I understand the risks involved in testing software so I won't blame you if it crashes/crashes AWN/causes my machine to self-destruct in a cataclysmic explosion etc.

Hi lotus,
[Q]

You can download a working test version here:
[Q]

You can install this applet through Awn Manager, but I have found you may have to close and re-start Awn Manager, after installing, for the applet to appear in the list.
[Q]

Please report any bugs or issues here :Sticky Notes thread
[Q]

One issue I am yet to address is multiple workspaces. You can place your notes on any workspace you like, but on a restart, they will all appear on the first workspace.
[Q]

Besides that, I need to clean up my code, and it should be good to go.
[Q]

Let me know how you get on.
[Q]

Cheers.
