File Browser Launcher and Nautilus problems
#25950 by lotus49 (0.2090) posted on 11:51am Monday, February 01st, 2010
I would like a launcher for Nautilus (ie file manager) in my AWN dock.
[Q]

For other applications like gnome-terminal, Firefox, VLC etc all I had to do was launch the application manually, right click on "Add as launcher" and it worked perfectly thereafter.
[Q]

When I tried this with Nautilus the icon appeared next to the other launchers but when I click on it, there is a brief pause with the busy cursor and that's it. Nothing else happens.
[Q]

I tried the File Browser Launcher but that has its problems too. It works OK in that it does at least launch a Nautilus window, but I cannot position it as I wish (the other launchers appear in the Launcher/Taskmanager applet and it's not possible to move another applet into that one) and more annoyingly, I end up with two icons in my dock. All my other launchers appear only once after the app has been launched but a little triangle appears underneath when the app is running.
[Q]

Can anyone help me to diagnose the problem with the Nautilus launcher please? I am very willing to try to find out what the problem is, but I don't know where to start. As I said, this has worked with all the other launchers I have tried).

You should probably take a look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/awn/+bug/487105

Thanks that was very helpful.
[Q]

The last post in that bug report suggested a simple fix that has done it for me.
[Q]

If anyone else reads this, the solution is as follows (or was in my case).
[Q]

Launch Nautilus and then right click on the icon in the dock. Select Add as launcher.
[Q]

Then go into Dock Preferences, select the Task Manager tab, select the appropriate launcher (mine was called "Home Folder") and edit.
[Q]

The Command should read:
[Q]

nautilus --no-desktop computer:
[Q]

rather than just:
[Q]

nautilus --no-desktop
[Q]

as mine did.
[Q]

Making that small change has now resulted in a fully working launcher that behaves as I would expect.
[Q]

Thanks for your help.
