Currently work is taking place to convert applets to use awn-icons

1) Decide you like it and continue to use it.
2) Change your icon theme to one with better coverage.
3) Drag and drop the icon you want to use onto the applet in question.

1) Work will take place, eventually, to install fallback icons with the applets when there isn't one available in the icon theme. The code handles this well... it's just a case of installing an appropriately named icon in the proper location.
2) When you right click and choose "Clear all Custom icons" it will clear ALL custom icons for ALL applets. You will get a warning dialog.
3) Applets using awn-icons are hooked into the gtk icon theme change signals... so changes to the applet themes will be reflected in the applet icons immediately.
4) Changes made using the Clear all menu item are not propagated immediately.
5) Drag and drop changes will apply immediately to the applet in question though other applets that might be affected will not get an immediate change.
