Avant Pandora Player v0.1.1 is available here.
Here
[Q]

*Updated for new player version & site URL as of Jan. 26th, 2008.
[Q]

Pandora is only supported in the U.S.
If you have an error please make sure that the Pandora site works in your Mozilla based web browser first.

I honestly have no idea, but last I knew last.fm had an open API for data. I haven't used it since they started doing streaming radio though. I'll download the applet and check it out.

Although you couldn't do things like right-click it to pause, skip, etc. like the last.fm applet, unless I'm mistaken, you could modify the meebo applet to use the URL https:// www.pandora.com/radio/tuner_8_1_0_0_pandora_mini.swf and set it to 640*250. That would just be the Pandora mini player.
Unfortunately, it couldn't actually control the player like last.fm (:/), and last I checked, Pandora doesn't have an API like last.fm (would be awesome, though.)

P.S.: Listening to Pandora right now :)

Alright, I've gotten about as far as I can with this so far. There seems to be a problem with gtkmozembed and pandora.com, I assume it's a javascript or possibly https problem. It crashes the applet. Trying to open the played directly doesn't work, I believe it has some checks for ads that causes it to freeze.
[Q]

Even if we eventually get it to load, I don't think gtkmozembed supports audio. We're probably going to have to wait for webkit.
[Q]

Here's what I've gotten so far. Any help is appreciated:

I just tried the pandora flash URL from your applet with swfdec-gnome - it sort of works. It freezes during the loading process, with a lot of console output. Since you have a more vested interest in seeing it work on swfdec, you should install swfdec-gnome, run `swfdec-player [url]`, and copy/paste the output into a bug for swfdec at the freedesktop.org bugzilla.

I believe this is a bug in AWN. You have to install into /usr/lib/awn/applets/ manually. Running this command on your system should fix it.
[Q]

sudo cp -R ~/.config/awn/applets/pandora/* /usr/lib/awn/applets

What happens when you click on the icon? Does it just bounce and never do anything or does it disappear from the dock? If it's the former it sounds like an AWN bug, I'd recommend reinstalling or possibly compiling from source (if you're feeling up to it). Do you know which version you're running? It may be that my applet is incompatible with stable..

The truth is that it's not a big issue right now. For some reason our developer community hasn't really adopted distributing applets in the a manner where drag and drop would be applicable. I'm not saying this to complain, but mostly because I've been searching for an applet to use to try and sort this problem for the last few hours and can't find any. We've just taken to putting everything in different branches.

I think the reality is that awn-extras trunk is the unstable branch and we shouldn't propagate any other ideas. As the mandate of awn-extras was explained to me it is meant to be a monolithic collection of all awn applets - someone please correct me if I am wrong.
[Q]

Personally I think it would be nice if someone would create a branch, develop a picky set of criteria and put the stable/finished (whatever that might mean) applets in there. Then packagers could have the choice of which branch to use... and not be left in the situation of either packaging them all or trying to sort out which ones meet a certain criteria. But that's really a idea for another thread some other day... :-)

Awn-extras trunk must be clean from "unstable" applets.. IMHO :-)

Thanks about the update ! :-)
[Q]

Well, it worked a couple of days ago but now this comes up
[Q]

"Dear Pandora Visitor,
[Q]

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for most listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative."
[Q]

Well, well, just to find a US proxy.... :-)

Check your gtkrc file, lines 375-378.
/home/mike/.themes/BlueSpace/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
is the file that's broken.
Might want to try a different theme.
[Q]

Next tme, could you try a cursory glance at the error message before posting here?

Did you check if it worked?
[Q]

The theme could have an error that prevents awn-dialogs from drawing, I don't know. Do other applets work? Does AWN load?
[Q]

I'm just going by this line:
[Q]

/home/mike/.themes/BlueSpace/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:378: Background image options specified without filename
[Q]

Note that the error comes from /home/mike/.themes/BlueSpace/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, which is one of the config files for your currect theme (BlueSpace) (I'm guessing that its your current theme). The error is in line 378. The error has to do with the theme author doing something wrong with the background image for something.
[Q]

If that's not the problem, AWN works fine and so do the other applets, just the pandora applet is broken, then you need to provide more teminal output, the snippet you've posted doesn't contain the actual error.

Try adding:
[Q]

/usr/lib/firefox
[Q]

to /etc/ld.so.conf then run
[Q]

sudo ldconfig

Why is this a bug? ;) As far as I'm concerned it should be considered public domain. I will readily admit that it is a derivative work of a derivative work; I can take very little credit for it.. Not to say that I'm not willing to maintain it if needed/desired, but no one should feel like they'll offend me if they patch and or alter it in any way (and feel free to give yourself credit).

Just so people aren't confused, the reason why we need to know what you license the applet under is because in several countries (such as the US), if you don't specify a license or explicitly make it public domain, then it is "All Rights Reserved", under the author's copyright, by default.
[Q]

@Luciferin: Could you state that in the bug, for posterity's sake? Also, you should also state which work the pandora applet is a derivative of. It will help us figure out which license is most appropriate for the applet. Offhand, I'd guess that it's a derivative of the lastfm applet, but I have zero experience with either code nor have I actually looked at either codebase.

Could you file a bug? It seems they change the URL periodically and then someone who is in the US needs to determine the new correct one and push the changes.

The Pandora applet is working for me from trunk. I fixed it last in rev396 on 2008-04-05.
[Q]

If you are using the last stable release, you'll need to update /pandora/awn-pandora.py where ever your applets are installed to.
[Q]

If they keep changing it often, I think we might have to reconsider releasing it in future versions.
[Q]

Maybe we could write a GUI for changing the url or maybe the webapplet in development will make this obsolete.
