What to do when Awn or an applet is not working
1) Make sure you've read the FAQ.
2) Search the forum for an answer (the search-function is also there to prevent duplicate topics)
3) Search the appropriate Launchpad Answer Tracker for a relevant answer.
4) If you just do not know how to accomplish something, post a message in the "AWN Help" channel. If you are sure you found an error, let us know in the bug tracker.
5) When posting a message, clearly state which distribution (i.e. Ubuntu 7.10) and which Awn and/or Awn Extras version you are using (i.e. Awn bzr trunk, revision 201 and Awn Extras bzr trunk, revision 700). Sometimes, it helps to also state which desktop environment (Gnome, Xfce, KDE, etc.), window manager (e.g., Compiz, Metacity), and video card + the drivers (for example NVidia GeForce2 GTS/Pro + nvidia binary drivers, r799) you're using. Sometimes, certain bugs only occur with very specific system configurations.

How can the functionality of AWN be extended?
Currently we have 2 types of tools that can enhance the functionality of AWN: plugins and applets.
Plugins are scripts that are written for other applications, for example for Pidgin and Firefox.
They use functionality of AWN via the DBUS communication system. For example Pidgin can change the icon depending on your online-status.
A list of plugins can be found at the wiki.
[Q]

Applets are mini-applications that are embedded in the dock. They are shipped in a separate project, Awn Extras. They can be added via the bar with a right mouse click -> Dock Preferences.
